Sedoanalgesia
What is Sedoanalgesia and How is it Applied?
The concept of sedoanalgesia or sedation+analgesia; It was created by combining the concepts of sedo: calming and analgesia: creating painlessness. The aim is to create calmness in the patient, reduce or even prevent anxiety (tension, restlessness), ensure that the patient does not remember what happened with the medications administered, and also reduce the pain with painkillers during the procedure. When explaining the sedation process to patients, analogies such as you will feel like you are sleeping on the sofa at home are used.
It is a preferred anesthesia technique generally used for simpler surgical procedures (such as endoscopy, abortion). The medications used in the sedation process may vary depending on the medical characteristics of the person. Appropriate medications and doses are determined for patients by specialist physicians. Sedation medications are given intravenously. During the sedation process, medications with sedative and pain-reducing effects are used.
