Spot Treatment (Melasma Application)

  • Skin blemishes, acne scars and sunspots that come with aging can disrupt the inequality in skin tone and cause undesirable appearance on the skin. melasmaIt is the formation of black or brown spots on the skin.

  • Sunspots (melasma) type spots are brown formations that are not congenital and usually appear on the face. It is more common in women than in men. Sunspots on the face are generally observed in areas exposed to the sun, such as the upper lip, cheeks and forehead. Rarely, it may occur in the jaw and forearms.

What are the symptoms of melasma?


Melasma causes light brown, dark brown, and bluish or freckle-like patches on your skin. Sometimes the spots may become red or inflamed. Melasma can appear on the following areas of your skin:

  • On shoulders and upper arms

  • On the forehead, cheeks, nose and upper lip

  • Symmetrically on both cheeks

  • On the jaw line and neck

Causes of Melasma Formation;

  • familial predisposition

  • Sun (ultraviolet) rays

  • Pregnancy

  • hormone treatments

  • Birth control pill use

  • antibiotics

  • Chemical cosmetic products (Some make-up materials, cologne, perfumes, soap and moisturizers)

  • Irritating hair removal procedures

  • Mechanical peels

  • It is known that some herbal teas (e.g. St. John's wort) increase the formation of melasma by causing an increase in melanin production.

What are the Types of Melasma?

There are three types of melasma according to the depth of pigmentation in the skin:

  • Epidermal:  Epidermal melasma has a dark brown colour. It is the type that looks most comfortable during examination and gives good results to the treatment.

  • Dermal: Dermal melasma has a light brown or bluish color with a blurred border. Diagnosis and treatment are more difficult.

  • Mixed melasma: It is a common type of melasma. It is characterized by both bluish and brown spots and the treatment success rate is high.

While deep-seated ones respond more difficult to treatment, superficial ones respond better to treatment.

What are Melasma Treatment Applications?

  • Melasma treatment is determined according to the type and intensity of the disease after a comprehensive examination. The areas where melasma is concentrated and the patient's preference also affect the treatment method to be applied.
