Tummy Tuck / Abdominoplasty

What is a Tummy Tuck?

Rapid and excessive weight gain or loss, or the deterioration of the muscles and skin structure in the abdominal area after pregnancy and the resulting sagging, cause problems caused by aesthetic concerns in some people, although this varies from person to person. Abdominoplasty is a method used to eliminate these sagging due to aesthetic concerns. Abdominal stretching surgeries are performed under general anesthesia, the hospital stay is 1-3 days, and the post-hospital period is approximately 1 month.

The important thing to note here is that Abdominoplasty is not a weight loss surgery. In order for tummy tuck surgery to be performed successfully, the person must be at the ideal weight. Additionally, if pregnancy is a concern, at least 1 year must have passed after birth before this surgery can be performed.

Who is Suitable for Abdominoplasty?

Individuals who have sagging in the abdominal area due to reasons such as pregnancy, heredity, aging and excessive weight loss are among the suitable candidates for abdominoplasty. Abdominoplasty, which is a type of aesthetic surgery preferred after birth, is applied to people with body deformations. After such situations, people with abdominal skin and muscle structure that does not spontaneously return to its normal and taut state can easily regain their former shape. Abdominoplasty surgery is intended for patient candidates who do not have a chronic disease and are suitable for anesthesia. Those who are not overweight, those who have loose abdominal tissue and low subcutaneous fat tissue, those who are disturbed by skin sagging, and those who complain about stretch marks can also be nominated for this procedure.

Who is Not Suitable for Abdominoplasty?

The risk of surgery-related complications increases if you have had previous abdominal surgery, use blood thinners, have a hematological or thromboembolic medical problem, have co-morbidities that cannot tolerate the surgery, plan to become pregnant within 1 year, have diabetes, and smoke.

How does the process proceed in tummy tuck surgery?

Abdominoplasty surgery can be performed with different techniques depending on the shape of the deformity. Sometimes better results are observed when combined with liposuction. In those with excessive skin and subcutaneous fat tissue and sagging, the belly button location may need to be rearranged and created. The wound location is almost always planned to coincide with the cesarean section scar, and the scar is ensured to remain within the underwear or swimsuit. The scar, which is the longer form of the cesarean surgery scar, takes between 6 months and 1 year to take its final form. The patient should not lift heavy objects in the first 1 month after the operation and should be careful about using a corset.
