Diagnosis and Treatment Methods in Cardiovascular Surgery
The methods used in the cardiovascular surgery department, both diagnosis and treatment, are very important in terms of detecting and preventing diseases, clogged vessels and complications that may develop. Peripheral Angiography Peripheral angiography, which is a surgical interventional treatment, is a surgical interventional method. It is applied to unclog narrowed or clogged arteries and restore blood flow. If the patient has any medications before the procedure, a medication adjustment is made. Depending on the patient's condition, sedatives may be given and the patient may also be placed into sedation (sleep). Local anesthesia is applied to the area where the procedure will be performed. Opaque material may be given to the patient to image the heart. The wire is passed through the arm or groin area where the procedure will be performed, and passed to the vein to try to open the blockage and ensure blood flow. After the procedure, medical supervision and compliance with the medical treatment is important. It is recommended that the patient not exert himself too much physically for a few days. Peripheral Angioplasty is the balloon and stent application, that is, peripheral angioplasty, as a surgical interventional treatment of peripheral artery disease performed in our hospital.
Narrowed or blocked arteries are entered through the arm or groin area, a wire is passed to the blocked area, and the balloon is inflated in the blocked area to ensure blood flow. Depending on the patient's condition and obstruction, stents may also be placed in these areas. After peripheral angioplasty, treatment is supported by medications and the aim is to prevent the obstruction from reoccurring and to control the obstruction. Atherectomy If efficient and sufficient results are not obtained after blob and stent applications in peripheral angioplasty, this method called shaving is used. The aim of this treatment method is to completely clear the plaques in the blocked artery. Plaque is removed by mechanical scraping. The duration of the procedure may vary depending on the vessel to be treated and the amount of blockage. Bolan angioplasty can also be performed to relax the vessels after this procedure.
Before the treatment, the patient is checked. After angiography is performed on the patient, the patient is taken to the angiography laboratory. The catheter is placed in the blocked vein. After the wire is passed through the catheter, it is advanced to the blocked part of the artery and the plaques in the artery are cleaned with the cutting part of the catheter. Blood flow is ensured in the cleaned artery. After the treatment, if the doctor deems it appropriate, the medications prescribed by the doctor must be continued and the controls must be followed.
