Smile Design – Zirconium Coating (Prosthetic Dentistry)

What is Prosthodontic Treatment?

It aims to restore the lost aesthetics and function to the patient by reconstructing the lost teeth and surrounding oral tissues.

In Which Situations Is Prosthodontic Treatment Applied?

Prosthetic dental treatment can be easily applied to patients who have lost their teeth due to tooth decay, patients who have lost their teeth due to breakage or loss, patients with gaps between their teeth, and patients who want to have an aesthetic smile.

What are the Methods Used in Prosthodontic Treatment?

Prosthetic dental treatments are one of the important branches of dentistry. The materials used in prosthetic dental treatment are in a wide range.

Some of the commonly used fixed prosthesis types can be listed as follows:

Fixed Prostheses: Fixed prostheses are a type of prosthesis made with support from existing healthy teeth or implants. These prostheses are fixed into the mouth with different chemicals.

Crown: It is also known as veneer among the public. It can be defined as the elimination of factors that disrupt tooth integrity caused by major caries and tooth fractures. Thus, the integrity of the person's teeth is preserved and the functionality of the tooth is regained. Additionally, the gaps between the teeth can also be closed with a crown.

Metal Supported Porcelain Veneer: Although the outer part of this type of prosthesis visible in the mouth is porcelain, the inside of the coating consists of metal. It is not recommended to be applied to the front teeth of patients with high aesthetic expectations.

Zirconium Supported Coating:  It is the type of coating that is closest to the natural appearance. In these applications, also known as zirconium-supported porcelain coating, the visible part of the tooth consists of porcelain and the inner part consists of zirconium.

Ceramic coating: It is known as the most aesthetically advanced coating type. In this respect, it is frequently used especially for the restoration of front teeth. The process can be described as tooth abrasion. There is no metal at the bottom of this type of coating. Ceramic coatings are produced from reinforced porcelain.

Bridge: In bridge treatment applied in cases where one or more teeth are lost, healthy teeth next to the existing tooth gap are used as bridge pillars. In bridge treatment, which can be done with different techniques, a prosthesis is applied to replace the lost tooth or teeth. Thus, the functionality and aesthetics that the person has lost are regained.

Implant:  One of the frequently preferred prostheses is the implant. Different types of prostheses can be placed on implants made by placing an artificial tooth root in the jawbone.

Removable Prostheses: Removable dentures, also known as palate dentures, are applied to people who have lost all their teeth for different reasons. Since the chewing function cannot be fully fulfilled, the person has difficulty consuming many foods. These teeth, which are removable, are designed to receive support from the tissues in the mouth. Thus, the loss of function and aesthetics that occurs when all teeth are lost can be eliminated.

Implant Prostheses: It is done by placing fixed or removable prostheses on existing or future implants. It is to ensure the adhesion of removable or fixed prostheses in implant-supported prostheses, which can be applied to people who do not have any teeth but have a suitable bone level for the implant.

To whom is Prosthodontic Treatment Applied?

Prosthetic dental treatment is generally applied to patients who are late for treatment. Thus, the lost tooth or teeth can be regained with different types of prosthesis. Prosthetic treatment methods make the person feel better in terms of function and aesthetics.
