Dental Implants

What is an implant?

Implants are screws made of titanium that are used in the treatment of missing teeth and are placed inside the jawbone. A dental prosthesis is placed on these screws. The implant serves as a tooth root and functions as easily as a natural tooth.

Who Can Get Dental Implants?

For patients who have lost their natural teeth due to reasons such as decay, fracture or gum disease, their missing teeth are treated by placing artificial roots called implants that best imitate natural teeth. The treatment range is wide enough to include the treatment of patients who have lost all their teeth due to missing teeth one by one. Implant treatment is applied to people who have completed their facial and jaw development and are over the age of 18. Before the treatment, the suitability of the individual's jaw structure for treatment is determined by x-rays. People with missing teeth experience functional and aesthetic problems.

Implants; It is applied to people who have lost their teeth due to periodontal disease, caries, trauma or any other reason. Individuals who have healthy gums and sufficient bone in their jawbone to support implants and who take good oral care can receive implants. However, in some cases, the amount of bone is not sufficient for implant placement. When bone loss is high, implants can be placed by providing the appropriate infrastructure for implant placement by applying advanced techniques.

How is Implant Treatment Done?

For implant treatment, a detailed examination and x-ray are required. In implant treatment, the patient is given local or general anesthesia. Measurements of the jaw bones and teeth are taken. A place for the implant is prepared and placed in the bone in accordance with the previously determined bone thickness and height. In the second stage of the implant application, after waiting for a certain period of time for the implant to integrate with the bone, depending on the condition of the bone and the applied jaw, the covered implant is opened, the part that imitates the tooth is placed and the prosthesis process begins. There are two options for placing dental implants. In the one-stage procedure, a temporary headgear is attached after the implant is placed. In the two-stage process, after the dental implant is inserted, it is covered with gum and left to heal.

Prosthetic heads are then attached. In both cases, a temporary bridge is placed and a healing period of 3 months for the lower jaw and 6 months for the upper jaw is expected. Sometimes newly made teeth can be placed on dental implants immediately. With a dental implant, the patient can laugh and eat safely. Zirconium implants are used to increase durability in narrow jawbones. Zirconium implants are made to increase the resistance of titanium implants. Zirconium is white close to natural tooth color and reflects light. Therefore, it is not only durable but also aesthetically useful.
