Developmental Problems and Anemia in Children

Anemia is known as anemia in medical terminology. Anemia occurs as a result of red blood cells (hemoglobin) falling below normal values.

Anemia in children causes significant developmental and health problems. In case of anemia, moodiness, fatigue and pale skin are observed. Iron deficiency is one of the important factors causing anemia in children. Preventive iron preparations are given by the doctor to replenish the iron stores of children and babies. The physiological anemia period observed in babies begins after the second month. Maintenance iron preparations are started in the 2nd month for premature babies and in the 4th month for term babies. Children experience some changes in their bodies at certain periods. They need more iron during their growth and development stages. In this respect, the need for iron increases with age. Anemia etc. Nutritional habits are important in preventing health problems.

Nutritional disorders in children affect the entire body system. It may cause developmental delay. In case of malnutrition, children experience symptoms such as weakness or indigestion, fatigue and weakness, anxiety and moodiness. Those with a body mass index below 18.5 are at risk of malnutrition. In order to prevent problems such as inadequate or overnutrition, a certain nutritional diet is given to all age groups of children, accompanied by a pediatrician and dietitian. As a result of the doctor's blood test and determination of the vitamins in the blood, the treatment process is carried out in proportion to the deficiency.

In cases of malnutrition and if the child refuses to eat, vitamin supplements may be given by the doctor. To monitor malnutrition or overnutrition, the child's development is monitored every month by the doctor until the child reaches a certain age range. Factors such as height, weight, and head circumference are checked with tables called percentiles. Percentile tables are a scale that monitors ordinary and unusual situations about height, weight and head circumference in babies between the ages of 0-3.

These values may be as high or low as 10%. In order to prevent malnutrition and developmental delay, it is necessary to visit a doctor every six months (blood tests such as iron deficiency etc. are performed), after the 6th month, 9th and 12th month checks are carried out, and at the 18th, 24th, 30th and 36th months. checks need to be made.
